Do I need any experience to shoot a match?

You do not have to have any previous match experience to come and shoot a match. You are expected to be able to handle your firearm safely and independently. You’ll find that other shooters are more than willing to help you out if you are new. There is no need to be intimidated. The best way to get started is to get out and shoot. You’ll learn more from shooting a match than reading posts about on the internet.

What the Precision Rifle Series?

The Precision Rifle Series is the governing body that organizes the national and regional series. North America is broken up into regions. Each region has it own standings and year end finale. The top shooters from each region are invited to the national finale at the end of the year.

How do I earn points towards the Precision Rifle Series Rimfire standings?

Every Northern Rimfire Series match you will earn you series points. However, in order to have those points count the Precision RIfle Series requires that you purchase a yearly membership. Rimfire membership is currently $30 USD a year. If you plan on trying to qualify for the regional or national finales, you need a membership.

*You do not have to have a membership for your points to count towards the Northern Rimfire Series season standings.

Can I use something other than 22LR ammunition?

No other calibers can be used. All matches are restricted to 22lr ammunition.

How accurate does my rifle have to be?

Targets are generally 3-4 MOA in size and are placed anywhere from 50 to 400 yards with the majority being between 125 and 200 yards.

Why do I need a CSSA membership?

Everyone that shoots a match must have a valid CSSA membership for insurance purposes. There are no exceptions to this.

I want to shoot your matches, but I live in the US. What do I need to do?

In order to shoot matches in Canada, you will need a few things.

  1. A passport. You will not be admitted into Canada without a valid passport.

  2. You will need to fill out an the RCMP 5589: Non-Resident Firearm Declaration form. You can find out more about the form and importation details here. There is a $25 CAD for the form which is good for 60 days. Typically bolt action firearms will fall into the non-restricted category. If you have any questions about firearms classification, please send us a message.

  3. A match invitation. Please contact us for an invitation. We will email one to you that you will need to print out and have with you at the border.

  4. Proper transportation equipment. Canada has specific laws around transportation of firearms. You can find out more about the requirements here. It is recommended that you lock your firearm in a hard case when travelling to Canada.

  5. A CSSA membership. As part of our insurance all shooters are required to have a CSSA membership regardless of country of residence. CSSA memberships are valid for one year.

  6. Leave your carry firearms at home and only bring your match rifle! Concealed carry is illegal in Canada.

I want to shoot more matches in the US. What do I need?

The PRS Rimfire has a large number of one day and two day matches in the US. This includes the regional and national finales. If you want to participate in those matches, you will need to fill out an ATF Form 6NIA. This will allow you to temporarily bring your firearms into the US for a match. Form submission is free of charge and is valid for a year. You will also need to have a valid passport to enter the US. To re-enter Canada you will need your passport as well as your PAL.
